Punk Tribute
Sex Pistols tribute band The Sex Pistols Experience play The Vault at Merthyr College next Saturday, 30th May. Also playing will be Edward Tudor-Pole, lead singer with 70’s punk band Ten-Pole Tudor, who had a UK top ten hit in 1981 with Swords of A Thousand Men. Tudor-Pole was also the vocalist on the Sex Pistols songs ‘Who Killed Bambi’, ‘Rock Around The Clock’ and ‘The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle’, following Johnny Rotten’s departure. First band opening the night will be Cardiff’s John Q Public (originally called ‘May Contain Nuts’), who play fast melodic music not dissimilar to The Misfits or the Bad Religion. Summer Skills
Glamorgan Gates are running a series of Summer Skills workshops this summer, so why not join one of their courses to learn a new skill or get in shape ready for summer! Courses include: Lunchtime walk, nutrition and relaxation 12-2pm, which includes a gentle hour long walk, Indian head massage, herbal teas, fruit and information on excercise and diet, started yesterday (Wednesday May 20th) but continues for the next four weeks: Safe Social Networking, Buying and Selling on the Internet, starting tomorrow (Friday 22nd May) 10am -12pm, for five weeks: Introduction to Digital Photography, also starting tomorrow (Friday 22nd May) 1-3pm for nine weeks. Merthyr Aloud! a new community choir, with Voice Workshops starting Friday 12th June for six weeks. Come along and learn some beautiful harmonies from different musical traditions. Art Exhibition
A new exhibition titled Merthyr Tydfil: Our Landscape, is now on show at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery. The exhibition is a selection of artwork produced by Glamorgan Gates art classes, using the Merthyr Tydfil landscape as a theme. The exhibition is free entry and runs until 14th June 2009. All Dressed Up
Another exhibition, this time looking at fashion over the years, is coming soon to Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Art Gallery. All Dressed Up is an exhibition displaying some of the costumes and accessories worn by the best dressed people of Merthyr Tydfil during the past 150 years. Also featuring fashion designs of the future by the Merthyr Tydfil community, in the search for the next Julien MacDonald! Global Winners
The winners of the Global Village raffle, at last Sunday’s Global Village event in Cyfarthfa Park are: Val Salt from Treharris and Laura Bryant from Cefn Coed, in the Adults’ category. They will receive a Fair Trade hamper. Winners in the Children’s category are Vidhur from Trefforest and Oliver Evans from Aberdare, who will both receive an Arts and Craft hamper.
