Film Reviwer Needed
At a loose end this summer? Like films? Well Zoom may have the volunteering opportunity for you. Zoom are looking for someone to come into the office and help them source copies of films that they would like to consider for screening at the next Zoom Film Festival. You will need you to write a short review of each film and keep a spreadsheet of the films – but its all great work experience and should be a lot of fun. You’d need to come into the Zoom office, at Treharris Community College, at least once a fortnight, but you can do most of the work in the comfort of your own home. If this sounds like something you might be interested in? Then email Lisa@zoomcymru.com – telling her a little bit about yourself; age, where you’re from and why you would like to help out. This is a completely voluntary position and Zoom can’t pay any expenses – you’ll be doing it out of your love for film! For further information contact Lisa Davies, Zoom Cymru, Treharris Community College, Edward Street, Treharrris CF46 5ER. Tel: 01443 413622

Blodeugerdd—Song of the Flowers Featured at Smithsonian Folk-life Festival
On June 23rd, 2009, Smithsonian Folkways release Blodeugerdd—Song of the Flowers, an anthology of music from the rich traditions of Wales. The musical landscapes painted by the ethereal sounds of the voice, Welsh harps, flutes, and fiddles highlight the traditions of Wales while offering a fresh, forward-looking approach expressed by the creativity of each musician. Adding to this unique musical portrait, Blodeugerdd was recorded in a 15th century gate-house over the course of one week. Blodeugerdd, (pronounced Blod-eye-gerth), was released as part of the Wales Smithsonian Cymru program at the 43rd annual Smithsonian Folk-life Festival attended by one million people each year on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Smithsonian Folk-ways is the non-profit record label of the Smithsonian Institution, the national museum of the United States. Their mission is the commitment to cultural diversity, education, increased understanding and lively engagement with the world of sound.
