Soundtrack Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Creation Records

Join us at Soundtrack on the 20th of November as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Creation Records, one of the most important British independent record labels of modern times. Soundtrack is pleased to present this unique free event, in recognition of the influential British indie.

'Upside Down: A Creation Records Evening' will be an exclusive 'In Conversation' event that will feature the unveiling of the trailer for the new Creation Records documentary 'Upside Down', as well as exclusive clips from the forthcoming film, due to be released in February 2010. This special launch event will be hosted by Director Danny O'Connor, former Creation Communications Manager Andy Saunders and Ride frontman Mark Gardner, who will discuss the movie and Creation's lasting impression on the modern musical landscape.

The Soundtrack Composers Symposium
Thursday the 19th of November / 10.00am / Cineworld, Mary Ann Street, Cardiff / Free Event
One for the budding composers and songwriters out there! Supported by The Arts Council of Wales, The Soundtrack Composers Symposium is a free event that will give emerging amateur composers and musicians an opportunity to learn about the routes and pathways in to composition for film and television in Wales, from experienced musicians and composers with years of experience working within those industries.

The event will be lead by former Catatonia guitarist, songwriter and composer Owen Powell, and will see guest speakers and specialist composers John Hardy and John Rea discussing their individual routes in to the industry, the future of the composer in the multi platform digital age and other related topics.

Warp Films at Soundtrack
Warp Films has created some of the most exciting pieces of British film making in the last five years. Since starting in 2002, Warp has gone on to win numerous plaudits and awards, with the likes of Shane Meadows, Chris Morris, Chris Cunningham and Paddy Considine collectively propelling Warp to critical acclaim and cementing the company as one of the UK's most creative production companies.

The Music of Hammer Horror

Join Soundtrack at Chapter Arts Centre for a special Hammer Horror event! The Music of Hammer Horror will see author and Hammer historian Marcus Hearn in conversation with fellow author and Hammer expert Dr. David Huckvale, as they delve in to the history of the men whose chilling scores raised the hairs on the necks of a generation of classic horror fans.

Following the 'In Conversation', there will be a double bill of two classic Hammer titles, chosen specifically for their fantastic soundtracks by our hosts for the evening; The Quatermass Xperiment and To The Devil A Daughter. Tickets from www.chapter.org / 02920 304400

Premiere: Separado! + Q&A with Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals)
Gruff Rhys is best known and the frontman and main songwriter for psychedelic rockers Super Furry Animals, as well as his solo outings and his recent Mercury Music Prize nominated collaboration act Neon Neon. However, Soundtrack is pleased to welcome Gruff to this year's festival as a film maker, as alongside his co-director Dylan Goch, Gruff Rhys will present the premier of his new movie Separado!

MIGHTY BOOSH fans!
Definitely one for fans of The Mighty Boosh, this special preview of 'Boosh' director Paul King's Bunny and the Bull, which also stars Noel Fielding, Julian Barratt & Richard Ayoade, will be the Closing Night Movie at Soundtrack 2009.
Bunny & The Bull will be introduced by Director Paul King, who will join Producer Mary Burke in an In Conversation following the screening.

John Cale at Soundtrack!
John Cale has brought an avant-garde ear to rock & roll ever since he co-founded the Velvet Underground in 1966, in the process, inventing more genres than you can shake a mic stand at.

Cale has produced legendary artists The Stooges, Patti Smith, Nico, Brian Eno, and Nick Drake, before making his jump in to the world of composing with the score for Andy Warhol's Heat. The beginning of the millennium brought the opportunity to score the big screen version of Bret Easton Ellis' American Psycho, before returning to Wales to work on Marc Evans' Beautiful Mistake.

John Cale In Conversation + American Psycho

John Cale In Conversation with BAFTA Cymru winning composer John Hardy, during which Cale will discuss his career as a composer, will precede a screening of the cult favourite 'American Psycho'. Tickets for this event will be available from Cineworld Cardiff, online at www.cineworld.co.uk

Julien Temple & Oil City Confidential
Julien Temple is the director of the excellent Sex Pistols doc 'The Filth and The Fury', the celebrated Joe Strummer movie 'The Future is Unwritten' and has directed music videos for the likes of The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Neil Young, Van Halen, Depeche Mode, Paul McCartney and Blur amongst others. Julien will be at Soundtrack presenting his new movie on DR Feelgood 'Oil City Confidential'.
Sunday 22nd of November / 6.00pm / Chapter Arts Centre

Oil City Confidential is a film noir feature length documentary and about Dr Feelgood; it's the story of four men in cheap suits who crashed out of Canvey Island in the early '70s, sandpapered the face of rock'n'roll and left all that came before a burnt-out ruin, four estuarine John-the-Baptists to Johnny Rotten's anti-Christ.
