Battle Of The Bands
Friday 12th February sees the Merthyr Tydfil heat of The Gathering, a valleys wide battle of the bands event for under 18s, with the final to be held at Bridgend. The Merthyr Tydfil heat will be at the Myfanwy Theatre in Merthyr Tydfil College. Bands who would like to enter the compertition can enter free of charge. The majority of members of the band need to be in comprehensive school or further education to qualify. Bands should contact their music teacher or Lee Davies at lee.davies@3gs.org.uk. Audience tickets for the night will be £5 and for under 18s only.

World Book Day
Siop y Ganolfan will be hosting a Literature Day (or Diwrnod Llen) for Welsh speakers and learners to celebrate World Book Day (the following Thursday) with authors Mihangel Morgan and Gwyn Morgan, on Saturday, 27th February. The day will begin with a children’s session with Welsh language children’s author Gwyn Morgan, who will be leading reading sessions, games and quizes at 10am. The day then continues with Mihangel Morgan, considered to be one of Wales's leading Welsh language novelists leading a session from 12.45pm, following “Cinio gyda’r Awduron” (Lunch With The Authors) at 12pm. The day is free entry, funded by the Welsh Books Council, Academi, Menter Iaith and MTCBC.

Poetry Reading
The next Open Mike Night at the Imperial Hotel welcomes guest author Kevin Mills on Thursday, 14th January. Kevin has recently completed a collection of poems for Cinnamon Press and a critical/creative crossover book for Sussex Academic Press. Both published in 2009. All are welcome to the Open Mike Nights. Come along to take part as a performer or just relax and enjoy listening to the others. The night is free entry and start at approximatley 7.30pm.
