Book Launch
A new publication “The Sounding Bowl”, with contributions from a number of Merthyr poets is being launched at the next Open Mike Night at the Imperial Hotel, next Thursday, 13th May 2010. The event is free entry, all welcome to come and take part in the open mic session or just relax and enjoy the other contributions.

Bio-Diversity Poetry and Music
In addition to the monthly open mic poetry nights at the Imperial Hotel, next month also welcomes Peter Finch for a themed poetry and music open mic night on Thursday, 17th June, focusing on bio-diversity and the environment as part of Bio-diversity Week. For further information contact

Global Voices
In the run up to the Global Village festival later this month a series of free workshops will be held at various community venues, including Global Voices - Sing in the Spring! On Saturday May 15th and Saturday May 22nd, at 10.30am -12.30pm upstairs at the Belle Vue, Merthyr Tydfil. Come along and learn some beautiful harmonies from different musical traditions. No experience needed - all songs taught by ear with Natural Voice Practitioner Heather Murray. Trefechan Dancing
Keep fit and explore other cultures at the free Global Village workshops to be held at Trefechan Community Centre on Monday, 17th May with a Belly Dancing session from 5pm – 6.30pm or come along to the Bhangra Dancing session, on Tuesday, 18th May at 6.30 – 7.30pm. Engine House Art & Dance
Dowlais Engine House continues it’s Global Village sessions at 5pm – 7pm tonight, Thursday 13th May and next week 20th May, with Masquerade Face Painting, using designs and themes from cultures from across the world. The Dowlais Engine House will also be hosting Bhangra Dancing on Monday, 17th May at 4 – 6pm. For further information, please contact 01685 375318.

Taff Bargoed Dance & Music
A number of different Global Village workshops will take place around the Taff Bargoed area this week and next: Treharris Boys and Girls Club will be hosting a Bhangra Drumming workshop tonight, Thursday, 13th May at 6.15pm and Bhangra Dancing the following week at the same time; 6.15 – 8.15pm. Bedlinog Resource Centre will also be hosting Bhangra Dancing next Wednesday (19th May). There will also be Salsa sessions at Bedlinog Primary School tonight and next Thursday (20th May).
