Acoustic Evening
Menter Iaith Merthyr Tudful will be holding a Noson Acwstig (Acoustic Evening) tonight, Thursday 9th September, at the Imperial Hotel, Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil. The event is open to all musicians and poets to come along and perform or to just listen to others. The session is free entry and begins at 8pm. Open Mic Night
Freelance writer, events co-ordinator, promoter and political activist Gemma June Howell will be the visiting author for this month’s Open Mic Night at the Imperial Hotel Merthyr Tydfil next Thursday, 16th September. Zumba Fitness
Why not ditch the work out for a Zumba Dance party? Zumba fitness is a fast paced and fun mixture of Latin dance and aerobics. Sonig Live
This Saturday (11th September) Sonig Youth Music Industry in partnership with The Muni Arts Centre presents another dose of Sonig Live, a hugely successful series of gigs featuring the very best hot new acts from the emerging Welsh music scene, supported by the Muni Young Promoters Team. Tonight’s line up includes The Guns, Straight Lines and Hey!Tonight. The night starts at 7.30pm in The Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd. Tickets cost £6. ID will be asked for upon entry. 12 – 14 year olds MUST be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21.
Portrait and Place
Portrait and Place is an art exhibition currently showing at The Metropole Cultural and Conference Centre, Abertillery. The exhibition is the first time that married artists Ursula and David Chamberlain have exhibited jointly. The work selected for the exhibition aims to bring together work that invites the viewer to look closer or draw their own meanings from the work. Both artists have extensive experience of working in ‘the arts’: Ursula has a background in ceramics and running arts sessions in Mental Health settings, whilst David has a background in community arts and has several years experience in Arts Development. The exhibition runs until 1st October and is free entry.
Jazz at The Met
Tomorrow night (10th September) The Jim Barber Trio will also be performing The Metropole Cultural and Conference Centre, Abertillery, in the Met Bar at 8pm (Doors at 7.30). They have been performing together on a regular basis for the last three years. The band consists of Jim Barber (piano) Ashley Jon Long (bass) and Ian Poole (drums). The trio has been steadily working to offer their music to as wide an audience as possible and have performed at many of the premier jazz venues in south Wales and the West Country.
