A group has been establshed with the aim of erecting a memorial to comemorate the Merthyr Rising on the old Castle Cinema site, where the rising is said to have begun.The Merthyr Rising of 1831 was the violent climax to many years of simmering unrest among the large working class population of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales and the surrounding area.
