The BBC Proms Composer Lab workshop with BBC National Orchestra of Wales on Sunday 5 April is the perfect opportunity to prepare an entry for the BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers' Competition or simply to develop composition skills.

Now in its 11th year, the prestigious national BBC Proms Inspire Young Composers' Competition gives young composers aged 12 to 18 a chance to get their music heard by a wider audience. Applicants can enter their own, original piece of music - no more than five minutes long - to the BBC Proms judging panel, who'll choose the winning compositions, which are then performed at the Young Composers' Concert during the BBC Proms season and broadcast worldwide on BBC Radio 3.

The overall winner will also receive a commission to be performed and recorded by BBC musicians at the 2010 Inspire events, and will get to work with top composers and musicians in a series of workshops to develop their commission.

There are no restrictions on the type of music that can be entered - it can be classical, jazz, pop, instrumental, vocal, anything you like. The only condition is that it has to be written down, as someone else will perform it if you get to the final.

All the activities are completely free of charge and to top it all off entrants will be offered free tickets to the world-famous BBC Proms at London's Royal Albert Hall!
