Community Choir
Merthyr Aloud, Merthyr Tydfil's inclusive community choir, is seeking new members for its next venture - taking part in a huge community event in Ebbw Vale linked to this year's National Eisteddfod in July. A regional community play is being staged by Head for Arts and will involve community choirs, drama groups, musicians and dancers from across the four county boroughs of Merthyr, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Caerphilly. The bilingual play will take place on the site's main stage, the day before the Eisteddfod’s opening ceremony.
Merthyr Aloud meets in the room behind St David's Church every Thursday from 1-3 pm. and is supported by Head for Arts in partnership with Glamorgan Gates. No experience is necessary, everyone is welcome to a warm and friendly atmosphere where songs from different musical traditions are taught by ear. A number of half day weekend workshops are planned to include all those who are unable to attend on a week day. In this way, it is hoped that other singers from Merthyr's many and varied choirs will be able to also take part in this exciting event.
